Executive Director Patrick Guerriero of The Log Cabin Republicans expressed outrage at the GOP revised platform to be presented at the convention this week. The platform will supposedly include new language that opposes judges who would seek to recognize "other living arrangements as equivalent to marriage". The GOP has some fascistic history in tinkering with due process like this, such as attempting to limit what sorts of cases courts can hear or what sorts of laws can be put on the books. It is hardly surprising that the LCR is outraged, but really what do they expect? Perhaps they should become the Log Cabin Libertarians...It has always struck me as a very odd union, that of gay and Republican.

Could it be merely the height of cynical double-speak that the Republican Platform committee stridently opposes the idea of gay marriage, while not 24 hours earlier, their candidate for Vice President states that it is an issue for the states to decide? that "we ought to do everything we can to tolerate and accomodate whatever kind of relationships people want to enter into." ? Could it be the GOP's mixed message on the issue is intended merely to confuse and mislead? Talking out of both sides of the Party's mouth in effect says nothing, which is what just may be the intent here.
On the other hand, could we really believe the VP is taking a position at odds with his party and his President, perhaps in a gesture of respect to those people, like his daughter, who may have truly moved him to a more enlightened position?
Maybe it's wiser to not believe any of these guys...

Unlike Beenie Man and Sizzla, the reggae hate singers, this "speech" does not incite violence against gay people. We should not be quite so touchy. While it is sanctimonious, the t-shirt merely states an opinion.
