More Slimey Strategies...Apropos of the previous post about the tangle that will ensue in the polling places of the US Presidential election: The November Harper's reports that 36 million votes will be cast with electronic voting machines "that provide no paper receipt and no possibility of a recount independent of the computers under the control of local election officials and the corporations hired to vouch for the result." Further, the article states that Florida "already has ruled illegal any attempt to recount votes subject to dispute."

Prediction--Massive challenges of voting results...Mostly this will occur in the very tightest states and tie up the election results for weeks after Election Day. Thousands of absentee ballots in Ohio are already in the courts... 58,000 absentee ballots "lost" in Florida...

Fire From Heaven...By utter accident, I'm very with it when it comes to what I'm reading these days. So happens I'm reading the wonderful Mary Renault's Fire From Heaven exactly as Oliver Stone is releasing his epic about Alexander the Great. Mary's Alexander is slightly subtle when he comes to his sexual preferences, but apparently Oliver's is not subtle at all. I can't wait for the fundies and the 'phobes to begin foaming at the mouth when the story of Alexander and Hephaistion hits the screen. I predict they will deny that the conqueror of most of the civilized world was what we now would call a homo.
