Triviality Triumphant...The wretched excess of the Paris Hilton saga has called to an undeserved prominence many of our most seedy West Coast players. The vampires that thrive in the L.A. noir have fallen over one another attempting to take a Paris Hilton picture, as she wails in the back seat of the squad car; the newsreaders of MSNBC are breathless and scornful in their play-by-play commentaries on the rich kid getting her comeuppance. Comparisons are made, unbelievably, to the murder and molestation trials of O.J Simpson and Michael Jackson. The legal apparatus of Los Angeles County again appears to be blinded and befuddled by the star quality of a criminal suspect. And when all was said and done, the frenzy and high drama of the day that consumed news coverage for hours at a stretch was given its due when the Court closed for business on Friday. After all, it was 5PM.
