On Lying...When the McCain campaign lies and distorts and smears, they are demonstrating a view of the voting public that is fundamentally different from that of the Obama campaign. Obama, hopeful and uplifting, to his enormous credit, believes the American people are not stupid. McCain believes we are stupid. McCain cynically believes we are swayed by emotive details, fear and--just wait, this will surely come in the next two weeks or so--discomfort with the colored man. Like many of his disgraced party leaders in the recent past, Mr. McCain is of the opinion that the American memory is awfully short and that even if some gaffe or offence leads to a red-handed capture, complete with evidence and sworn statements, the great healing can begin with a tearful apology, some rehab and soon nobody will remember. One candidate thinks highly of us; the other thinks we're stupid. Which one should we want?
